Lachung is a mountain village at an altitude of around 9000 feet – it means “small pass”. Lachung is embraced by waterfalls, snow covered mountain peaks, cascading streams and apple orchards. This North Sikkim mountain village is renowned for its peaches, apples and apricots.
Majority of the inhabitants of Lachung are Tibetian and Lepcha descent, who usually interact in Lepcha, Nepali and Bhutia languages. The crowning attraction of Lachung is the beautiful Lachung Monastery or Gompa founded in 1880 AD.
