Phodong Monastery is one of the significant monasteries of Sikkim. it is located in the north district of Sikkim around 30 kilometers from the capital Gangtok. Phodong Monastery is considered by many as the most attractive monastery of Sikkim. With numerous age old murals, this monastery is actually a rebuilt over the old structure around 18th century.
The religious name of the monastery is Karma Tashi Tso Khorling Gumpha. When Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal was in power, the older monastery was built around 1723 AD. Later reconstructions took place and a new monastery was constructed in place of the old one during the reign of Chogyal Tsugphund Namgyal.
